It not often that you hear or read something that just says it all, and with those words, it helps to inform what you do next.

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

In this blog, we are letting you in on the very early days of our business planning, we want to share one of the inspirations behind the business. Les Brown may never have any idea of the impact that he had on the early green shoot beginnings of Drayton Fox Recruitment.

In listening to his words, we learnt so much and it gave us the inspiration to challenge our own ‘normal’. What struck us most is that it is possible to make changes happen just by understanding that if you can’t find the conditions that make you happy in what you’re doing, then you must create those conditions. We learnt that really challenging ourselves is the only way to move forwards. We began the journey knowing that living our dream would be hard, starting a new business certainly didn’t give us the option of ‘easy’.

Knowing that there would be any number of setbacks along the way – we developed the mindset that any temporary inconvenience should not take charge of our lives – we had to stand up for ourselves.

Of all the snippets of guidance and motivation, one piece really rang true and has supported a lot of how the Drayton Fox business has developed and grown in the first few months: life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. How do you feel about that?

Knowledge comes from everything we do and everything that happens to us. We learn valuable lessons over the course of time based on our experiences and the ways in which we react to them. Your thoughts and attitude change your experiences and shapes your life. You have a choice when it comes to how to react to any situation. If you’re serious about effecting your own change – go all out to make it happen.

If you haven’t listened to Les Brown speaking – we would highly recommend it.
